Murder and Mayhem Tour

Yes, Franklin is a quaint and charming town, no doubt about it. Visitors comes to Franklin from all over the world and remark, "What a sweet little town...I'll bet it's always been just like this." Hmmm....not exactly. Franklin has many dark secrets and a gruesome past. Thie Murder and Mayhem tour peels back the town's genteel exterior and takes a hard look at Franklin's seamy underbelly. It's the kind of tour that makes Franklin natives of a certain age say, "I remember when that happened." Some of the events are from Franklin's earliest days, while others are of more recent vintage.

If you like the down and dirty, this is your tour.  Your guide will tell you stories researcSam Locke, far right, busted up stills during Prohibitionhed from newspaper accounts, court records and at times, from actual eyewitnesses. Some of the crimes you'll hear about include:

  • Prostitution
  • Back-alley abortion
  • Blackmail
  • Bootlegging
  • Murder, murder and after that...more murder 

And they all took place right here in downtown Franklin. Be prepared to be shocked. You won't believe your ears....

 No one under age 13 permitted on the tour because of inappropriate subject matter (you'll just have to trust us on this one). $18 adults, $10 ages 13-18.  The Murder and Mayhem tour covers about six city blocks.  Dress for the weather and wear comfortable walking shoes.  

The Murder and Mayhem tour is available most Saturdays, and other nights with a minimum of 4 people. Next tour is Wednesday, November 23, 2011 at 7:00 pm. Please call 615-400-3808 to make your reservation.  Payment is by cash or check at the time of the tour, or you may use a credit card online.

Most of the tour is wheelchair accessible.  Meet at 305 Public Square, which is in front of the old courthouse on the public square in the middle of downtown Franklin, next to Mellow Mushroom.  Please plan to arrive ten minutes before the start of your tour time.
